About Me
I recognize that making the decision to start therapy can be difficult. Deciding on a therapist you feel comfortable working with can be an even harder decision.
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Texas (License #67907), I aim to provide a setting where clients feels safe, supported, challenged and encouraged. I do this by listening to you and encouraging you to tell your story, identify your needs and set goals. Together, we will develop a plan to meet those needs. My approach is an eclectic mix of therapy styles to provide you the tools and help you learn the skills that will carry you forward. AND, occasionally, I will incorporate my own quirky style of storytelling.
As a therapist, I have worked with teens, young adults, couples, kids, doctors, therapists, upper level professionals in a variety of fields, nurses, college students, record producers and professional athletes. I have worked with people of various ages, cultures, religious backgrounds, diagnoses, sexualities and gender identities. I have more than 25 years working in nonprofit agencies, inpatient and outpatient hospital settings, camps, rehabilitation programs and residential children's homes.
I believe the most effective approach will incorporate your personal experiences and the lens you view the world through. It's important to honor and respect your gender, sexuality, cultural and religious background/experiences and your beliefs about the world. With no judgment, I will listen, learn from you and support you.
Together my wife and I raised our two children to be young adults, experiencing all the typical (and not so typical) parenting struggles along the way. We have lived the stress of the “sandwich generation”, being parents of young children while also caring for our own parents as they aged. I have had great success at work and I have also had challenges, including surviving a corporate layoff. I have grieved the loss of family members, friends and many pets over the years.
My Master's Degree is in Social Work from Baylor University with an internship in the Texas Children's Hospital Outpatient Psychiatry Department. I am trained in EMDR. I have earned a certificate in nonprofit management from the LINE program at Rice University and have a Bachelor's Degree in English Literature from Hendrix College. I find that my English Literature degree serves me in discerning metaphors, symbols and patterns in my client's life stories as they share them with me.
On a personal level, I enjoy reading, music (both listening and playing the drums or guitar), spending time with our pets (both cats and dogs); spending time outdoors and spending time with my family.
I'd love to visit with you and talk about how I can help you with your challenges and goals. Please don't hesitate to reach out.
